TOUR DAS HUGEL

Today was the annual Tour Das Hugel ride in Austin. It is 105 miles and covers 14,600 feet of climbing on some of the most nasty hills in Austin. Check it out here

So... this is the second year I have done this ride. I have to be honest though, I have never done the full 105 miles. Last year I only rode one loop which took me about 2 hours and 15 minutes. Today I decided that I was going to ride part of the second loop and try to go farther than I did last year. Goal accommplished! I ended up riding about 3 hours and 30 minutes today. I'm kind of mad at myself for not finishing though, because the group I was riding with was doing the whole 105 miles...so I was the wimp of the group today. I mean it's not like I'm training for a long race or anything (hmmm...). Next year I plan on riding the full 105 miles and making it a yearly tradition to finish the whole ride!

This ride is HARD but I love it! There were about a 100 or so people that started today and I'm not sure how many will finish. There are definitely a couple of hills out there that I thought I was going to have to walk my bike up, or that I thought my lungs were going to pop out of my chest(but didn't!).

So, see ya'll next year for the full 105 miles!!!

The Das Hugel was out of control! I haven't had such a good time in forever! The support was fabulous and the route speaks for itself. My time was 7:45 total and I ended up with 114 miles because of a bad turn decision. My legs are killing me today!

Smokey Valley Hill. That was it. I couldn't believe how steep that one was. After that I was finished. Next year, I'm definitly down for the whole ride.
