RIVER CITIES TRI ( Triple Win and A Must Do Race)

I now know why the River Cities Sprint Tri is sold out every year. Great venue, great music, great schwag (backpack, towel, sunglasses, 2 shirts, hat, and socks-WOW), great volunteers, and a fast course. If you haven't raced River Cities... DO IT! The drive to Shreveport is easy and goes by fast. It would be a fun road trip with some friends if you get the chance. But...sign up early because it sells out quick!

The water temp was a nice 94 degrees. Got in the water to warm up, but realized I was melting so I got out and found some shade. Since there was no 'open' wave for this race, I started in wave #8 out of 11 (30 minutes after B). Started way left of everyone so that I could go around people instead of through them. It may have been a bit longer but it was definitely less congested. My stroke felt good and my arms actually never got tired. Usually toward the end of the swim my arms are ready to fall off. Was finally glad to be out of the hot tub and on the bike.

The bike course is awesome. Fast, smooth, and rolling...just what I like. I knew Caroline Smith, fellow Zoot teammate, was right behind me so I just put my head down and pushed the pace. I stayed to the left the whole ride and tried to pass as many people as I could.

Was first off the bike (woman) but didn't know how much of a lead I had. My legs felt good starting the run and to my surprise even my heel felt ok. It wasn't fast but I was running with little pain so I'll take it. At the turn around, I noticed that I had a decent lead and I just tried to hold it for the rest of the run. I thought it was funny when I passed a guy towards the end of the run and he yelled out "Guys, here she comes...don't get chicked". So...of course this motivated me to try and run down everyone that was in front of me!

Ended up with the overall win, B also ended up with the overall win, and the triple win of the weekend was that I won $70 at the casino (yeah me)! I was actually up $100 at one point but man... gambling is addicting. I finally had to put a curfew on myself so that I would leave the casino.

I'm back to the daily grind of training and coaching this week. It was nice to get away for the weekend even if it was only to Shreveport!

P.S. Not sure where my last post went. I don't think I deleted it.
